College Avenue Case Study

The College Avenue reconstruction started in February of 2001 and was to be completed by late summer. Vinton Construction of Manitowoc was the general contractor. Jim Maples, President of Vinton Construction, questioned whether or not Davel Engineering could meet the challenge of his aggressive construction schedule. Construction included relay of sewers and water mains, concrete paving, sidewalks, curb and gutter, ornamental light poles, and tree grates, all of which required staking. Davel dedicated one crew armed with a robotic total station survey instrument for all of the construction staking. Not only did the contractor meet the deadline he beat it, and there was never a single contractor waiting for stakes! The project was completed six weeks ahead of schedule in the summer of 2001.
